In a world shaped by accelerating technological change, it is no surprise that war remains a powerful driver of innovation. This idea was at the heart of an article published in the latest issue of Omvärld, a strategic foresight publication from Försvarets Materielverk (FMV), Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration.

Nerio Defense AB was proud to be invited to exhibit at FMV’s annual Teknisk Prognos conference in September 2024. The event brought together leading minds from government, military, and industry under the common theme of resilience and innovation. Our team had the opportunity to engage with officials and stakeholders in the exhibition area known as Innovationstorget — a dynamic forum for discussing the future of defence capabilities.
In Omvärld (page 34), the article “Kriget är uppfinningarnas moder” (“War is the mother of innovations”) features a photo and quotation from our founder, Michael Wallenius. His message is clear: today’s soldiers, especially those in regular infantry and reconnaissance roles, remain digitally underserved. While elite units may benefit from specialised equipment, the vast majority of soldiers still operate without access to modern digital tools.
This must change.
At Nerio Defense, we believe the soldier must be equipped not just with protection and firepower, but with cognitive and communication tools that ease their burden. Automation should be a force multiplier at the tactical edge — helping soldiers filter noise, focus on the mission, and act faster under pressure.
Our mission is to digitalise the dismounted soldier — delivering intelligent hardware and software that works reliably in the field and supports soldiers with real-time situational awareness, team coordination, and decision support.
We are not building systems for the sake of technology. We are building tools that protect lives, reduce cognitive overload, and increase operational tempo — even under fire.
We thank FMV for the opportunity to be part of Teknisk Prognos and for highlighting the importance of innovative thinking in its Omvärld publication. We look forward to continued collaboration with all stakeholders who share our vision: that the modern soldier deserves modern tools.
